Τhe worker’s rights
3 min read
There is a reality that keeps repeating itself monotonously: “We can’t find staff.”
People in business often say this after a sigh, rarely suggesting solutions.
At some point, we must seek causes—otherwise, we stay stuck complaining.
Production and low- to mid-skilled work are today poorly paid and highly demanding. Money isn’t enough for rent, nor for ten days of vacation. Somewhere along the way, you hear about a developer or an influencer earning three times more, not counting coins halfway through the month — and, as the cherry on top, whispers of under-the-table income.
The feeling is harsh: effort is not rewarded proportionally.
This is where the problem starts to take shape. Money, on its own, is rarely enough. If it isn’t accompanied by purpose, context, and perspective, it simply runs out.
The core strategy begins with compensation—not just salary, but the logic of “I produce more—I earn more.” Bonuses, profit sharing, and a clear link between productivity and reward. This is not generosity, but sound business logic.
But that alone is not enough.
Employees don’t leave only because of money. They leave because they feel trapped. By schedules, by roles, by “boxes.” By an organizational chart that resembles an apartment building without an elevator: you move up only if you have strong legs and a good relationship with the building manager.
Most small and medium-sized businesses still operate with vertical communication, fear mistakes, and leadership of the “I know best” type. The result? People working alone, defensively, unwilling to share knowledge or take initiative. Not because they don’t want to — but because they are not allowed to.
What’s needed is a culture that doesn’t punish mistakes but uses them.
If employees are afraid to speak up, to experiment, to say “this truck can’t get through here,” then the business will keep following Google Maps down roads that have been closed for years.
Modern businesses don’t need know-it-alls. They need people who understand that intelligence doesn’t flow from the top down — it rises from the field.
That’s how a team is built — one that becomes the company’s true competitive advantage, supporting productivity and loyalty. And it’s built through working conditions and benefits such as:
- more vacation days
- discounts on the company’s products or services
- technology that reduces physical strain
- foresight in improving the work itself
- Cover the cost of seminars and education.
Perhaps, in the end, the problem isn’t that “there are no workers.”
Maybe the real issue isn’t a lack of workers, but a lack of businesses worth working for. Companies that invest in staff attract and keep talent, leading to greater long-term success.
If what you sell isn’t created with satisfaction, it will be sold without impact.
